Ghana, often known as the gate to “West Africa” is one of the most popular destinations for volunteers in Africa as it is known to amaze backpackers from all over the world. At Camp Ghana you will experience the best that Ghana has to offer including its incomparable coastline, ancient castles and colourful wildlife whilst giving you the opportunity to truly make a different to local communities. As a Camp Ghana applicant you will get involved with some incredible community projects, witness the true Ghanaian culture and experience the way of life of this incredible country plus you will visit some of Ghana’s most breath-taking travel spots.

Volunteering

Camp Ghana Volunteers can get involved in many different types of work, from painting buildings to mixing sand and cement, carrying rubble or fetching water to teaching in local schools and volunteering in the orphanages to make these childrens day just that little bit brighter.  

The Experience

Camp Ghana will give you the opportunity to travel safely in a group that will quickly become your close friends, whilst visiting one of Africa’s most popular and welcoming countries for a whole 3 weeks! As a Camp Ghana applicant you will get involved with some incredible community projects, witness the true Ghanaian culture and experience the way of life of this incredible country plus you will visit some of Ghana’s most breath-taking travel spots. On top of all of this, all of our applicants will get to take part in some incredible activities in their down time. You will get to watch local tribes dance to typical Ghanaian folk songs in nearby villages and take a trip to the Kintampo waterfalls where you can take a relaxing soak in the waters.  Visit the largest wildlife refuge in Ghana known as the Mole National park – here you will get up close with everything from crocodiles to elephants. Finally you will get to visit a monkey sanctuary where you can see up to 700 monkeys!  If that isn’t enough to persuade you to apply then we don’t know what is! .

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Katoka. All Camp Ghana volunteers will be met by Camp Ghana coordinators. All volunteers will be accommodated in a hotel or guesthouse in Accra.

Day 2 - On this day you will be provided with a flight to Tamale which takes about 50 minutes. Upon arrival you will check into your volunteer accommodation.

Day 3 - Today you will attend a tour of the local town and learn about the local internet cafes, markets and restaurants.

Day 4 - Today you will have a project orientation and start your Camp Ghana volunteer work.

Day 5 – 8 - Camp Ghana volunteer days with free time to explore the local area.

Day 9 - 10 - Over the weekend you will immerse yourself in Ghanaian culture with local traditions such as meeting the local chief, attending dancing events with local drummers and story tellers all around a camp fire.

Day 11- 15 - Camp Ghana Volunteer project. Get your hands dirty and get involved in building, mixing cement, painting buildings and working together with the local community. You can also opt to work in a local orphanage

Day 16 - 17 - A chance to visit the Mole National Park, the largest in Ghana. With thousands of exotic animals, this is certainly one not to be missed (please note additional fee may apply for this).

Day 18 - 20 - Camp Ghana Volunteer project.

Day 21 - Money Sanctuary and Kintampo waterfalls.

Day 22 – Departure on Saturday, volunteers will be taking their flights from Tamale and onward flight to Accra.

FAQ's

Kotoka International Airport. You will then be provided with a 50minute domestic flights to Tamale.
Volunteers will stay in the volunteer accommodation buildings in the village sharing rooms with up to 3 others.
Yes! Most of our volunteers will come on their own to Camp Ghana. This is the best way to allow you to truly be yourself and make some friends for life!
There are internet cafes in town that you can use in your spare time.
