Whale Shark Conservation
At Camp Mexico, you'll be involved first hand with the conservation of whale sharks. You'll be involved with conducting research and assisting in data collection, which both play a pivotal role in the future survival of this incredible animal. It's an awesome way to get hands-on experience in marine conservation whilst immersing yourself in Mexican culture, a truly unmissable opportunity.
During your free time, which is usually around one day a week, you are free to do whatever you would like. Learn about the culture or history of the area, try some tasty Mexican food or even just chill out on the beach whilst working on your tan. There are some awesome activities that you can do in the surrounding areas so make sure to use your free time well!
On your first day, meet a Camp Mexico rep at the airport before transferring to accommodation. Depending on your time of arrival, you may start work on the same day.
Your rep will give you a short orientation and introduction into the volunteer work you will be getting involved with throughout your stay. They will give you some tips for activities to do on your day off and also provide you with any other advice they might think you will need.
You will volunteer around 6 days a week, where you will play a pivotal role in the conservation of whale sharks. There are a variety of day to day tasks for you to get involved with during your stay at Camp Mexico, for example: photographic identification of the whale sharks, environmental education, monitoring of the sharks (genes, scars etc.), environmental monitoring (sea conditions, profiling etc.) and much much more.
You will have approximately one day off a week, which may not be on the weekend. On this day you are free to do as you please, whether that be go on a nearby adventure, get involved with some awesome activities such as golf or diving in the surrounding areas or even just take some time to relax on a nearby beach.
